Vertebral Axial Decompression (VAX-D) Can Alleviate Low Back Pain Associated with Disc Problems.

(Repeated from Front Page)
Vertebral axial decompression (VAX-D) is a non-surgical therapy created to provide noninvasive relief of low back pain and alleviate the underlying problems causing the pain.

Over 15 million American adults currently suffer from back pain. And each year over 4 million people report that disc disorders are a major contributor to their back pain. There are several solutions offered to treat the pain, including surgery, painkillers, chiropractic techniques, osteopathic manipulation and more. And if you ask any person who has suffered from back pain they will more than likely say they've tried just about everything to make it go away, Yet it keeps coming back.

At Advanced Spine Care Center, our patients have experienced powerful results with a combination of specialists and treatments modalities. Our staff is dedicated to relieving pain and getting patients back to their active lives as quickly as possible.

With that goal in mind, we take pride in being the only facility in Tucson to offer VAX-D therapy.

VAX-D applies the clinical proven principles to relieve pressure in the vital structure of the lumber spine that may be causing low back pain and peripheral pain associated with

  • Herniated lumbar discs
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Sciatica
  • Nerve compression
  • Posterior facet syndrome

VAX-D is a safe and effective therapy aimed at treating symptoms and alleviating the underlying problems that cause back pain. In fact, VAX-D has been proven to be the equivalent to surgery in decompression of the lumbar spine in both clinical and major hospital studies.

How it works.

Patients lay on the VAX-D table. A patented hand grip restrains the upper body while a pelvic harness is secured on the patient and attached to a movable tension meter housing.

Controlled parameters of progressive distraction are determined by the computer logic-controlled system. Through these precisely controlled adjustments along the natural anatomical lines of the spinal column, pressure is relieved on the vital structures of the lumbar spine. Decompression is achieved in the patient from the tenth thoracic vertebra through the lumbar spine to the sacrum, thus relieving pain.

In addition. intradiscal pressure is reduced. creating a vacuum-like state within the discs that helps the discs and joints move back into their normal positions. The back essentially mends itself.

What makes VAX-D different from traction? With VAX-D, distraction occurs at computer-precise timings that do not elicit reflex muscle spasms that can worsen the pain.

How many treatments are required?

The number of VAX-D sessions required depends on the severity of the patient's underlying condition. For example, patients with herniated discs generally respond with 20 to 25 visits. While patients with degenerated discs often achieve significant relief with the same number of sessions, but all may need ongoing therapy at regular intervals to remain free of pain.

A partner in patient care.

Many patients have probably resolved to just live with pain, especially if surgery is their next treatment option or if they're faced with the decision to have a second surgery. Now there is another solution right here in Tucson.

For pain involving herniated lumber discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, nerve compression or posterior facet syndrome, VAX-D therapy should be part of an overall management strategy that also includes self-care strategies and rehabilitation. The Advanced Spine Care Center has vast experience working in concert with traditional physicians and rehabilitation professional to manage the symptoms of lumbar disc herniation.
