The HEP is an integral part of your physical
therapy program. It is the part that allows you to take control
of your own rehabiltation. It also provides the means to maintain
your current level of function once your rehabilitation program
is complete.
A HEP is developed for you by the therapist.
It is designed with each patient's individual needs in mind and
is initiated during the very first visit. The HEP consists of activities
tailored toward achieving the patient's physical therapy goals.
These activities closely mirror the activities performed during
each physical therapy treatment. This provides the therapist
with information on the patients understanding and technique while
performing their HEP.
Benefits of the Home Exercise Program
The benefits of a HEP include, but are not limited
to the following:
• Increased strength
• Increased endurance
• Increased flexibility
• Increased postural alignment
• Pain relief
Summary
In summary, the HEP allows both patient and
therapist to work as a team to reach each patient's individual goals by the end
of their rehabilitation program.
